History
Nanjing University of Science and Technology was founded in 1982. It was the first university established in Jiangsu Province. The university was a pioneer in the scientific research in China. The university focuses on basic and applied research, and emphasizes the development of new knowledge in the social sciences and the natural sciences.

Campus
Nanjing University of Science and Technology is located in the Jing'an District of Nanjing. The university campus is over 170 hectares and over 30 hectares are green, and is mainly situated in the open space of the campus. There are 13 major buildings on campus, including the main administration building, the Faculty of Science building, the Humanities and Social Sciences building, the Technology building, the School of Postgraduate study building, the School of Continuing Education building, the new School of Natural Science building, the School of Engineering building, the School of Physical Science and Technology building, the School of Arts and Education building, the building for the Office of the Dean of Graduate Students, the School of Optics and Optoelectronic Engineering building, the School of Advanced Instrument Design and Technology building, and the School of Automation and Artificial Intelligence building.
Student life
Nanjing University of Science and Technology has student representation on its executive committee. The first student council was founded on 19 November 1981. Student councils exist at the university level and department level. These councils are responsible for student life activities, including academic advising, student welfare, co-curricular activities, and university development.
